17 December 2020, Beijing – Macalline Art Center, Beijing’s newest non-profit art institution, digitially launches today with a series of digital initiatives, including “Bare Screen”, a program of newly-commissioned digital artworks. Supported by Red Star Macalline Holding Group Co., Ltd., Macalline Art Center was founded by artist and collector Che Xuanqiao. It aims to support artists who center innovation and experimentation in their work, with an underlying mission to nurture debate, dialogue, and education around contemporary art. Macalline Art Center will officially launch in Beijing in summer 2021, with further details to be announced in spring 2021. More information can be found on the organization’s new social media channels (WeChat, Weibo, Douyin, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube).
In light of the ongoing global pandemic, Macalline Art Center will soft launch with a series of online projects, highlighting the new role of art institutions in responding to the ever-changing situation brought on by COVID-19 and their responsibility to present nimble and flexible programming. Curated by Yuan Fuca, chief curator-at-large at Macalline Art Center, Bare Screen will virtually inaugurate the new institution, featuring newly-commissioned video works by a dozen Chinese contemporary artists, hosted on Macalline Art Center’s website and social media channels.
