We are delighted to launch e-flux in Chinese, a collaboration between Heichi Magazine and e-flux journal. e-flux in Chinese takes the form of a monthly column, and publishes Chinese translations of essays selected from the archive of e-flux journal.
Founded in 2008, e-flux journal is a leading monthly online publication. The journal has revealed an entirely new sphere of discourse and concerns within the art field by focusing on a wide range of topics from labor in the arts, image circulation, and education to artificial intelligence, afro-pessimism, and cosmism. Now on its 111th issue, e-flux journal is recognized for having been the first in visual arts to systematically publish writings by a key group of artists and theorists such as Hito Steyerl, Yuk Hui, Elizabeth Povinelli, Boris Groys, Martha Rosler, Franco (Bifo) Berardi, Eyal Weizman (Forensic Architecture), Kodwo Eshun, and numerous others who have reshaped artistic practices and informed a generation of young artists and thinkers across different parts of the world. After collaborating with a number of organizations in China over the past decades, publishing many Chinese authors, and organizing an important conference in Shanghai entitled What Is Contemporary Art?, e-flux is no stranger to the Chinese artistic community.
e-flux in Chinese is conceived as an editorial effort to widen the readership of these influential and experimental ideas and discourses. This endeavor also highlights the hope of Heichi, a new bilingual magazine and publishing platform, to support a community of writers, artists, and thinkers, and deepen the exchange, in particular from the Chinese-speaking world and beyond.
We have invited curator and writer Xiaoyu Weng to serve as the column’s guest editor, teaming up with the editors from both Heichi Magazine and e-flux journal.
